In Red, Yellow, Blue (and a Dash of White, Too!), we are introduced to a little girl (who is unnamed) and a blue elephant named EleBooyah who are about to discover the wonder and fun of mixing colors. Each color gets three double-page spreads. There’s a surprising and surreal twist at the end when the little girl mixes all the colors together — be sure not to miss the fold-out!
The artwork is stunning. In my experience with children’s picture books, I really haven’t come across this kind of artistic style before. The art is fresh and modern. There is a strong sense of energy and motion, fun and excitement. It’s like high-end street art.
There is a musical vibe too as the colors the little girl and EleBooyah paint with are noisy! The paint makes all sorts of fun sounds like splish, splash, sploosh, swoosh, swish, and swash! Red and yellow “jam” to make orange. A trumpet emits blue and red sound waves.
I can totally see how Red, Yellow, Blue (and a Dash of White, Too!) will inspire kids to embrace their inner artists, get imaginative, and have their own painting adventures, elephant optional 😉
Disclosure: I received a complimentary review copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The opinions are my own.
