Review (and a giveaway!) for Weird & Funny & Cool Stuff to Color and Draw!: For Kids & Cool Adults by Chris Piascik33
May 19, 2016 by I SNIFF BOOKS - Beth
GIVEAWAY DETAILS ARE TOWARD THE BOTTOM OF THE POST!
Weird & Funny & Cool Stuff to Color and Draw!: For Kids & Cool Adults contains drawings adapted from Chris Piascik’s daily drawing project as well as drawings that are exclusive to the coloring book, all rendered in black and white, for you to color. The coloring book is full of edgy, wild, fun, and surreal imagery — there’s monsters and creatures; mouths and eyes unattached from their bodies; “portraits” where animals, humans, and monsters morph in and out of each other; robots; ghosts; and more. I love coloring imagery like this because it’s so quirky and out there and you can use whatever colors you want.
Weird & Funny & Cool is softcover, sized 8.5 x 11 inches (A4), and has 24 coloring pages plus one blank page. The paper is a bit thin (60# | 88 gsm) and the art is printed on both sides of the page so I think colored pencils are going to be the way to go. Part of me wonders if gel pens would perform differently on the page than water-based markers — you could totally use that blank page to test for shadowing or bleed through. (Coloring experiments! Science!)
The inky lines are of a medium thickness and this is consistent throughout. I’d like to add that Weird & Funny & Cool is self-published via CreateSpace but the black inky lines are quite crisp and clear — there is no fuzziness or pixelation. I only mention this because I had some major print quality issues with another coloring book from CreateSpace, but that is definitely not the case with Weird & Funny & Cool.
As for intricacy levels, the designs have many different bits to color, but all the elements are a reasonable size — even with a dull colored pencil point you will have no trouble coloring in the smaller bits.
The book is glue-bound but all of the images have either white space or a thin black line border around them so none of the imagery slips into the book’s gutter.
OTHER COLORING BOOKS BY CHRIS: Chris also published Zen and the Pizza-ful Mind: A Pizza Themed Adult Coloring Book and The Huge & Beautiful Trumptivity Coloring & Activity Book — both are available right here in his Big Cartel Shop, Print Brigade, and also on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
CONNECT WITH CHRIS PIASCIK: It is quite possible that Chris has the brightest and flashiest and wackiest website I’ve ever seen (this is a sincere compliment!) — visit his website and see for yourself! You can also connect with Chris via facebook, twitter, and instagram.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary review copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. The opinions are my own.
