Review (and a giveaway!) for Mollie Makes Colouring Volume 2

June 1, 2016 by Beth - I SNIFF BOOKS blog

Mollie Makes is a lifestyle and craft magazine for those who live creatively. Each issue contains a variety of sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, and DIY projects as well as inspiring interviews, home tours, and more! Back in November 2015 Mollie Makes surprised its readers by releasing Mollies Makes Colouring — a bookazine filled with over 60 playful and charming illustrations to color. Mollie Makes fans wanted more and their wish came true: Mollie Makes Colouring Volume 2 released in March 2016.

Mollie Makes Colouring Volume 2 has a total of 65 exclusive illustrations that are organized into five themes: Spring (20), Wanderlust (14), Sweet Things (11), Patterns (14), and Stretch Your Creativity (6). As a bonus, there are also four greetings cards (sans envelopes) to color, too!

The artistic style varies from page to page because Mollie Makes commissioned different artists for the illustrations.

Each illustration is printed on just one side of the page (100 gsm | 68# paper) so you have the freedom and luxury of using any art medium you want without having to worry about shadowing or bleed through. To be safe — especially if you choose to use alcohol-based markers like BICs or Sharpies — be sure to slide a piece of paper or card stock underneath the page while you color to prevent any ink from transferring to the next page. The reverse side of the illustration includes the theme name, title of the illustration, and the artist’s name and website.

The line thickness varies from page to page — some of the designs have delicate thin lines while others have bolder medium lines.

The illustrations also vary in intricacy — some pages have larger spaces to fill with color while other pages are made up of many components to color.

Here’s a page that I colored from the Wanderlust section. It’s titled “Through Clouds” by Anna Emilia Laitinen. I used Crayola colored pencils.

Below are interior page previews. There are four each from the Spring, Wanderlust, Sweet Things, and Patterns themes and two from the Stretch Your Creativity theme. The photos are captioned accordingly.
