GIVEAWAY DETAILS ARE TOWARD THE BOTTOM OF THE POST!
Marvelous Market Color-in’ Book is filled with a most lovely collection of illustrations to color that are inspired by local and exotic markets around the world.
There are pages filled with the fruits, vegetables, herbs and edible flowers, cheeses, and other foodstuffs you’d expect to find at a farmer’s market. There are also pages featuring a bit more exotic and specialty food and drink items like seafood and spirits. In these illustrations each food items is labeled — so very helpful because you can do a google image search and color each item realistically.
There are illustrations featuring table spreads with dishes prepared from ingredients found at the markets like tea and coffee paired with sweet treats and a breakfast table set with eggs, waffles, sausages, bagels, and fruit.
There are pages featuring food trucks and food stalls as well as pages showcasing the unique foods these vendors offer.
There are pages featuring an assortment of items including kitchen gadgets, pantry items, and sweet treats where you can have a bit more freedom with your color choices.
Marvelous Market is one of six coloring books from International Arrival’s Color-in’ Book collection. These books have many qualities that we colorists desire in our coloring books!
** All the books in the Color-in’ collection have a hidden wire o-ring binding so the books lay COMPLETELY FLAT while you color!
** All the designs are one-sided — so if you use gel pens or markers, you won’t have to worry about the ink shadowing or bleeding through to the reverse side.
** The coloring pages are quite large — sized 9 x 12 inches — and are perforated so you can keep and display them or give them away. (Just a handful of the designs are borderless so you will lose just a smidge of the design if you tear out the page.)
** The (white) paper is 120 gsm drawing paper and it has a nice weight. The drawing paper does feel a bit different from the paper in other coloring books I have. It feels lightly textured.
While Marvelous Market has much in common with the other five coloring books in the Color-in’ collection, there are some differences.
** It appears that all the illustrations were hand-drawn — this lends a such charming and cozy vibe to the art.
** The drawing lines are thin rather than being a bold, medium thickness.
** The designs are fairly intricate in that the pages are full of many things to color, the items tend to be small or medium in size, and some of these same items are made up of smaller details to color in.
Personally, I enjoy coloring pages with all of these qualities because I get very absorbed in the coloring experience, it takes days to color a page, and I get a sense of accomplishment as I see different parts of the page fill up with color.
Here’s a page I colored using my good ol’ Crayola colored pencils, although I did use my Bruynzeel colored pencils in just a few small spots. (Both brands of colored pencils worked just fine on the lightly textured paper.) Usually I color EVERYTHING that will sit still on a page so it feels just a tiny bit strange that I’ve deliberately left some areas uncolored (like the PB&J label, the bit under the honey cap, and the tiny coffee mug) but I think I’m okay with my decision to leave them bare. After all, some spots, like the clear plastic bread bag, the pasta jar, and the cracker wrappers look perfectly fine uncolored. This page was lots of fun to color. I spent five days on it and I’ve already started another one.
