“From that time on, the world was hers for the reading. She would never be lonely again, never miss the lack of intimate friends. Books became her friends and there was one for every mood. There was poetry for quiet companionship. There was adventure when she tired of quiet hours. There would be love stories when she came into adolescence and when she wanted to feel a closeness to someone she could read a biography. On that day when she first knew she could read, she made a vow to read one book a day as long as she lived.” from A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith.
Hi, I’m Beth and I love books! And that quote above, I absolutely adore! Not only is the quote from my most favorite book, but it perfectly describes my relationship with books. Reading is just what I do. It’s a huge part of who I am. I am never without a book.
As for my blog name, in addition to reading books, I also love to sniff them! I just love picking up a new book, giving the pages a flick with my thumb, and inhaling deeply. It’s more than the smell of the paper that makes my heart go pitter-patter. I get excited for all the intangible stuff that my nose can detect: the scent of all those unread words, the opportunity to escape to another time and place, reading adventures yet to be had, and fictional friendships yet to be made.
I began my blog in February 2014 to share book reviews but, as time went on, the content of my blog began to change to reflect my current
obsessions interests. I had phases that lasted for several months where I was nearly exclusively reviewing, for example, children’s picture books and adult coloring books. Even though the review content has been, shall we say, a bit random over the years, I assure you that I still read (and sniff!) books daily. That’s why it’s time for a change. It’s time to take my blog back to where it all began. It’s time to get back to talking about books. As of August 2018, I will begin publishing book reviews again and, what I call for lack of a better term, book-ish musings. There will still be jigsaw puzzle reviews but only two to three puzzle reviews per month.
You can trust that my opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way because I do not receive monetary compensation for my reviews nor do I use affiliate links. I blog for fun, not for profit.
